ASPP LETTERS;  c/o 9 Banchory Green, Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland KY7 6UA

OSCAR  (Miller voted Party activist of the year 2011)

ASPP,

I accept the Party's honour of the Oscar with all humility, but it is not for honour's sake that I am willing to take on the mantle of a spokesperson and candidate for, The All Scotland Pensioners Party.

I want to convince the electorate that our policies are the only way to address the health, social and financial injustices that are affecting the pensioners of Scotland today !

The air waves have been very busy since Christmas but only about "independence".

We, the pensioners, have been put on the back burner.

So, it is up to us, The All Scotland Pensioner Party activists to keep reminding the big four (altho' we beat The Liberals last time out) that we have not gone away, or passed on, but ARE still out there.

Until the next  Westminster/European/Scottish election our main aim is to try and get as many activists as possible to stand in there local ward for the 2012 May council elections.

I am calling ALL pensioners' ; 1.2 million in Scotland (not just North Ayrshire)  to get involved.

WE can make a difference.

J. MILLER . Your 'common sense' candidate for Saltcoats and Stevenston. ASPP

The Name Game

So, the subject got round to names on the pensioners forum one night;

FORUM MEMBER

As a political party my first thought is the name is not appropriate as like me people will think you are only interested in pension issues and not the broader picture and you run the risk then of apathy.

Voice of the People Party

United Scotland Party

The Alternative Scottish Party

Shuggy's Party.....? joke......

See where I am leading, the name should in a split second tell people who you are and what you stand for (in my humble opinion).

SHUGGY REPLIED

Why ? You don't have to be a conservative to support some of the Conservative ideas re. free enterprise, thrift and individual freedom.

Mr Blair tried to be all things to all people and he failed.

Our roots come from pensioner injustices but the tag of 'pensioner' does not restrict the individuals within our Party from being experienced, strong individuals who can be just as good (if not better) at representing the views of a whole electorate.

I'm not an old aged pensioner but I was won over by their confident views on crime and punishment, poor standards of public servants, sound defence, etc.

You don't have to be pregnant to vote   Labour (?)

You do, however, have to be confused if you vote for the Liberals or The SNP.

SHUGGY

The FORUM member then replied something like, OK keep your pants on by the way (BTW). It was only a suggestion. Which made me laugh.

The ASPP is not a Party that likes to say, "it told you so". We leave that kind of childish rhetoric to the 'main' parties.

However, after reading a piece in the Daily Mail on the 22nd December (caring for pensioners in their own homes), I feel it is important to highlight the consistency of our views compared to others who have failed and continue to fail when it comes to decent, fair and vital decisions.

2005 !  Seven years ago. Can you imagine how many hearts have been broken and how many of the younger generations have become disillusioned with the notion of savings, building up a home and 'grafting' to create a better start for your kids: All because of the 'seizing homes' scandalous policy.

COUNCIL ELECTIONS ?

Sir,

I do hope that the Pensioners Party is still going strong and I was wondering if it will be amongst my choices for next years council elections ?

Its  'old fashioned', entertaining campaign methods at last May's Scottish Election took me back to my younger years when, politicians and activists got out there 'on the streets' and informed us of the real choices that we have in a healthy democracy.

Keep up the good work !

'Wee'  MARY                                                                         name and address supplied

ANSWER

Mary,

Yes 'we' are as strong as ever and going 'good guns'.

The Party will be standing in ALL '32' areas at next year's council elections.

You can choose us at the ballot box.

Below are two reminders of our 'old fashioned' (but still the best way) canvassing methods.

Thank you for your morale boosting letter.
